Kissing Under the Mistletoe
Getting caught under the mistletoe can be the best, or worst, moment of your life. Torpedo Factory Art Center Open House
The Torpedo Factory Art Center was once a munitions depot during World War 1 and is now it’s one of the largest visual art centers in the country! Annual Holiday Boat Parade of Lights
The holidays are full of surprises, and a holiday boat parade is quite unordinary. Have you ever seen Rudolph the Red Nose Boat? The Boat Parade of Lights is a beloved tradition by locals and is truly an amazing thing to experience. Boats decked out with holiday lights illuminate Alexandria’s harbor and cruise the Potomac River in style. The boat lights are judged on creativeness at the end of the event, so may the best boat win!
Christmas in Camp at the Fort Ward Museum
Christmas was celebrated a little bit different during the Civil War. The Christmas in Camp at the Fort Ward Museum event will showcase how the holiday was observed during war torn America. Soldiers will be reenacting life in their winter camps and the officer’s tent will be decorated for the holidays. Santa Claus, dressed in patriotic Union attire, will give the museum a little visit as well! Tours of the fort will also be given during this event.
Scottish Christmas Walk
Celebrate the holidays Scottish style! Old Town Alexandria’s Scottish Christmas Walk Parade is a local favorite and honors the city’s humble beginnings. Three Scottish merchants founded the city and we celebrate their achievements even today. Bagpipes, drums, Scottie dogs and men in plaid kilts take to the streets for a weekend full of festive fun!
